Athletes of Action Memorial Scholarship Luncheon

The Athletes of Action Organization hosted its 11th scholarship luncheon April 9.

This year’s theme was “Bring it home to 15136.” The catered luncheon was held in grand fashion at the McKees Rocks VFW Post 418 before a sellout crowd of 252.

The 2022 scholarship recipients were Sto-Rox seniors Asia Harper and Trinity Griffin. Montour senior recipients were Olivia Lysick and Sophia Trevenen.

Each received a $2,000 award based on excellence in academics, athletics, community service and extracurricular activities.

Honored guests were former Stowe resident Pat Tarquinio, longtime coach and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inductee. Coach Tarquinio was recognized with a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award with his immediate family.

This year’s keynote speaker was Cassidy Krug, former Montour and Stanford University graduate. Cassidy is a 10-time USA Diving National Champion, a seven-time NCAA All-American, two-time NCAA Champion, co-captain of the 2012 Olympics women’s diving team, finishing seventh in the 3-meter event.

She was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame, receiving the Athlete of the Year Award and member of the Stanford University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Cassidy received the 2022 Athletes of Action Lifetime Achievement Award.

Upcoming Athletes of Action fundraising events include a 21 and over double

elimination bocce tournament at Kennedy Fairhaven Park on July 9. A golf

outing and catered buffet at Shadow Lakes Golf Club on Sept. 10.
