Council approves GetGo gas station during McKees Rocks borough meeting

-Briefly-

During the Oct. 13 meeting, McKees Rocks council voted on the final approval for Giant Eagle to build a GetGo location at the former Pat Catan’s store at 1250 Chartiers Ave.

The site will include 12 fuel outlets and a store serving hot food and convenience items. “That’s gonna be a big plus for us up in that area,” said Mayor Jack Muhr.

During public meetings before the final vote, a handful of local residents voiced concern about the traffic impact of a planned entry and exit point on Vine Street — a one-way road leading into a residential neighborhood. Among those critics, Councilwoman Liz Delgado failed to persuade council to prohibit the exit point before the vote was cast Oct. 13.

“Vine, Wayne and Greydon are gonna be severely impacted,” she said.

Krisby and councilmembers Joe Mixter, Archie Brinza and Leslie Walker all approved the proposal. Delgado and Councilwoman Sarah Harvey voted against. Councilman Chas Maritz abstained (he commands the adjoining Veteran of Foreign Wars Post, which owns the property), while Vice President Kathy Evich was absent.
