Glass recycling drop-off opens to county residents

-MOON-

A glass recycling drop-off location in Moon will be open to all Allegheny County residents after it launches March 7.

The drop-off site, opening at the township public works garage on 1115 Stevenson Mill Road, will accept glass jars and bottles of all colors every weekday between 7 a.m and 3 p.m.

The Moon facility is one of two new drop-off points coming to Allegheny County through the newly-formed Glass Recycling Collaborative of Southwestern PA using funds provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Moon Township and Moon Municipal Authority are both sponsors.

“Glass is still one of the most recyclable materials we generate in our homes, and the market for glass recycling is very strong,” said Sarah Alessio Shea, Pennsylvania Resource Council deputy director, in a press release announcing the program.

“It’s important from an environmental perspective to keep glass out of landfills, and PRC is dedicated to building an efficient, region-wide glass recycling collection network.”
