McKees Rocks Bridge closure delayed another week

-UPDATE-

Lane restriction on the McKees Rocks Bridge scheduled to begin Sept. 6 has been pushed back a week after weather issues delayed planned closures.

“They need to conduct island work (which is happening tonight),” said Steve Cowan, PennDOT media representative, via email.

The nearly $26 million project is scheduled to conclude in 2024. Work on the bridge originally constructed in 1931 will focus on sidewalks, gusset plates, deck spalls, concrete barriers, back walls and pedestrian railings plus the installation of a new sidewalk protective fence.

The work will be performed during daylight hours only. Daily, 24,000 vehicles cross the bridge at an average of 1,000 every hour.
