Montour legacy awardees to be honored at holiday tournament

-BASKETBALL-

In the spring of 2021, a committee of Montour coaches and administrators was formed to find a way to recognize the many standout student-athletes who have been the foundation of Montour’s basketball programs.

A decision was made to re-engage with past players so that “Spartan Pride” will forever be the foundation of the school district’s program, both past and present.

This initial class of legacy awardees will include five coaches and administrators, 13

girls basketball players, and 27 boys players stretching back to 1951. Consideration

was given to individuals who accumulated at least 1,000 career points during their

time as Spartans.

The individuals will be honored on Wednesday, Dec. 29 during the Montour Christmas Tournament. A reception for honorees is set for 3 to 4:30 pm. in the high school cafeteria followed by a pre-game ceremony at 4:45 p.m. in the Montour Athletic Center. A video tribute will be shown prior. The 2021-22 Spartans will then play against West Allegheny with the tip tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Montour Athletic Center is located at the district hilltop campus at 225 Clever Road, Robinson Township.

Check back in the Jan. 6 edition of Gazette 2.0, where a list of inductees and photos from the tournament will be published.
