Moon Tiger girls seize championship win

Moon Area gymnasts clenched the WPIAL team championship title while hosting the contest this year. The win – number seven in the program’s history – places the Tigers second in overall team title victories behind North Allegheny.
Moon topped the tables in the vault and uneven bars categories with scores of 37.466 and 35.050 respectively to snatch the overall win on Feb. 11. The Tigers came in as runners-up on floor exercises with a score of 36.825, bringing their team total to 143.666 points.
Montour, which also fielded a team, finished in fifth place overall with a total score of 131.892.
Both teams from the western suburbs also landed some individual accolades.
Moon’s Kasey Sheffield claimed the all-around title with a score of 33.975 in the Intermediate II Divison. In the same division, Moon’s Irelynd Anthony posted an 8.6 to take gold in the floor exercises category. Montour’s Dailyn Hopkins placed a close second in the vault competition with a score of 9.375 in the Intermediate I Division. Moon’s Lauren Hoff came in at second place in the Advanced Division vault category with a score of 9.675.
