Sto-Rox school directors approved the hiring of Colleen Frankel as an assistant principal for the district at a yearly salary of $82,000.

Frankel was hired Oct. 21 to replace Chris Captline as K-6 assistant principal, said Dan Rinkus, communications director for the district. She comes to Sto-Rox from the Hampton School District.

The board accepted Captline’s retirement at the meeting. His final day of employment is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Frankel's background includes 22 years as an educator. She said her undergraduate degree in elementary education was acquired at Penn State University and her career began in the Gateway District after student teaching there. She then attended the University of Pittsburgh to become certified as a reading specialist. Her principal certification comes from Duquesne University.

Currently, she is attending Point Park University for leadership administration.

Frankel said she was drawn to the district because she appreciated the “out-of-the-box” thinking displayed by the district.

“That’s how I started my career and how I want to end my career and that’s something I couldn’t quite get off the ground in my last district,” said Frankel.

At the same meeting directors transferred Michael Duca from his post as assistant principal at the Jr./Sr. High School to English teacher. Duca was appointed to the position on June 9 and his last day as assistant principal is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Rinkus said the district is still on the hunt for a replacement.
