Protest efforts still going after school closure

-ST. PHILIP-

Weeks after St. Philip School failed to reopen this semester, a parent-led protest group is still hoping to overturn a merger now in effect with neighboring Catholic school St. Margaret in Green Tree.

St. Philip advocates have mounted various efforts to keep the doors of the Crafton elementary school open after the diocese announced the upcoming merger in March, however, none have so far proved successful. After appeals to the Pittsburgh Diocese fell flat, the Save Saint Philip School group procured a canon law expert and issued additional filings with the Vatican.

With all rulings so far going against them, the group is now seeking to raise several thousands of dollars required to file further appeals through a Vatican law specialist.

The newly-formed Guardian Angel Academy at the former St. Margaret site welcomed its first cohort of students during the final week of August.
