High school basketball has returned to the hardwood for the 2021-22 campaign.

In their first game action of the season, the Montour Spartans boys opened with a strong showing, defeating the Rochester Rams 76-46 in the Midland/Geneva College tip-off tournament played Dec. 12 at Lincoln Park.

Montour made light work of Rochester during the season opener, leading the game by 20 points at intermission. A trio of seniors led the Spartan run.

Vason Stevenson led all scorers with a 20-point showing, Isayah Mosley chipped in 18 points and Diaun Pinkett netted 12, as the three combined for a total 50 point tally.

This year’s Spartans roster boasts a stellar lineup, with seven seniors itching to make a bonafide WPIAL playoff run. The Spartans have a starting five unit with no player under 6 feet tall.

Along with their senior leadership and towering physical presence, Montour is a speedy and hustle-oriented team that runs the floor extremely well.

On the defensive side, the team puts on the pressure, getting up close and personal.

With seven seniors at the helm, this year could be the year the Spartans make a lot of their opponents sit up and take notice.
