The Dog in Robinson Township is a combination of a hot dog restaurant and a cafe.

Opened during the pandemic, The Dog is a new restaurant offering “elite hot dogs and gourmet coffee.” Owned by Genene Evanovich, an Ingram native, and Jerome Mryon, who grew up and still lives in the South Hills, The Dog fills a need for something different in Robinson Township.
Four years ago, Myron opened a location of the Bruster’s Ice Cream chain, where he and Evanovich worked together. They went on to become great friends. One day when considering what to do with the extra space in the building that houses Bruster’s Ice Cream, Myron said that he and Evanovich “collaborated to come up with the idea to do a hot dog store in the extra space.”
“There isn’t a hot dog shop up here. There’s everything else. You can get any kind of burger, all kinds of fast food, so we thought it was good idea to do hot dogs,” said Evanovich.
Inside, the store’s design is a combination of a hot dog restaurant and a coffee shop. Myron points to the menu on the wall that reads “We have some fancy dogs as you can see. We do basic dogs as well as Tex Mex Dogs or a Mac & Cheese Dog.”
While their most popular hot dog is chili cheese, there are many toppings that can be added to any of the hot dogs, including sauerkraut.
They serve 10 varieties of high-end coffee that is ground on-site and served hot, cold, or as a blended coffee smoothie. The menu also includes pepperoni rolls, fish sandwiches, sweet or hot sausage sandwiches, soft pretzels and nachos. All sandwiches and hot dogs are served on Mancini bread rolls. Sausage and fish sandwiches are made to order – call ahead so it’ll be ready when you arrive. Finish it off with a warm cookie.
Both Myron and Evanovich are passionate about serving great food and giving back to the community. A portion of each purchase is donated to no-kill animal shelters and rescue organizations to save dogs in need.
“We both love animals. We’re big animal lovers,” said Evanovich.
The Dog is located at 5888 Steubenville Pike in Robinson. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. While there is no indoor seating, there are picnic tables available outside.
