Vikings and Spartans both knock off No. 4 Highlands

It was a great week in the 15136.


Both the Sto-Rox and Montour boys basketball teams cleaned up handily in ongoing play during a holiday tournament hosted by Montour. Both teams beat the No. 4 ranked 4A Highlands.


Sto-Rox defeated West Allegheny 69-66 on Dec. 28, then knocked off the Highlands 62-54.

In a victory over West Allegheny, the Vikings overcame a 40-28 deficit to defeat the Indians 69-62. At one point they were behind 19 points, but 11 rebounds along with 14 point output from both Corey Simmons and Jaymar Pearson saved the game. During the Highlands victory, Senior Corey Simmons led the Vikings with 19 points and 10 rebounds, along with Jaymar Pearson, who had 13 points with 13 rebounds. Josh Jenkins brought 13 points and 11 rebounds to the board.


Montour defeated Highlands 60-51. The Spartans brought 29 points from Vason Stevenson and 13 points and 12 rebounds from Tyriq Eleam. Senior Isayah Mosley added 12 points. Diaun Pinkett had eight steals and four assists.


As of Dec. 28, the Vikings are now are 4-1, with a loss to No. 1 ranked in 5A New Castle. The Spartans are 6-0 overall as of Dec. 30.
