Canevin and Montour headed to PIAA playoffs

By Mike Longo Jr.

The next stop on the postseason train is the PIAA State Tournament with some coverage area representation.

On the baseball side of the diamond WPIAL Class 1A Champions Bishop Canevin will be joined by Class 4A consolation game winner Montour. Both entries are headed for the PIAA state playoffs.

Bishop Canevin will attempt to ride the arm of sophomore phenom pitcher Tyler Maddix and their young, strong, hitting offense in their quest for PIAA gold.

Montour will be looking to strike gold again after last season's incredible run when they entered the number two slot following a heartbreaking 12-inning loss in the WPIAL Championship game.

The Lady Spartans from Montour will also enter tournament play in their quest for a state title. They gained entry as the WPIAL District 7 Runners Up.

In the WPIAL Playoffs as the No. 2 seed, Montour ran over every opponent leading up to the finals. Belle Vernon stopped the Spartans quest for a title in a wild 8-7 win.

If they follow the same script as their baseball counterparts did last season, one can only guess what's in store for Montour in the state games.
