Through mayoral proclamation, March 23 is now officially Dr. Charles Sakai Day in Crafton Borough.

“I am very excited tonight to issue my first mayoral proclamation,” Mayor Coletta Perry said at the March 23 Crafton council meeting. She awarded the proclamation to Dr. Sakai, with his family in attendance.

Dr. Sakai started his dental practice in Crafton in 1989 with his wife, Gale Sakai, who managed the office. Since then, Dr. Sakai has been a member of the Crafton Ingram Rotary club for 13 years, serving as president and grant chair. He was also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and repeatedly partnered with Carlynton to provide dental exams to students.

“Dr. Sakai has provided outstanding care to patients to great success in Crafton for 33 years building a reputation of excellence and building his office team from two employees to seven,” Perry read from her proclamation.

The proclamation coincides with Dr. Sakai’s retirement. He intends to spend his time with his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and playing golf.
