The Moon Area Tigers extended a six game undefeated run Oct. 1 with a 28-13 victory over South Fayette that could have gone either way right up through the fourth quarter.

Holding onto a one-point lead (14-13) at the start of the final stanza, the Tigers fended off a South Fayette offensive that reached the one-yard line on first down.

South Fayette lost four yards on their first play, then threw two incomplete passes before a quarterback sack by Linebacker Dylan Sleva dashed the Lions’ chances. Reclaiming possession, the Tigers responded with an aggressive drive down the field for a score. The Tigers held off the Lions during the next play, before scoring another touchdown to close out the game.

Despite a respectable overall team performance, major contributions by three seniors - Sleva, Taite Beachy and Tyler McGowan - clinched the game for Moon.

Sleva used his strength and physicality to pound out 117 rushing yards. Beachy had a two-touchdown night, one rushing and one on a pass reception. Quarterback McGowan racked up 95 yards rushing, scoring once and was nine out of 10 passing for 136 total yards in the air.

With six wins under the belt, this Moon team has shown all the elements needed to pull off a perfect season. Will that happen? Only time will tell.
