Street paving coming to several McKees Rocks roads

By Elizabeth Perry

McKees Rocks council unanimously approved a paving contract for several neglected side streets June 14.

—MEETING NOTES—

A. Folino Construction will carry out the much-needed repaving on portions of Ella, Rosamond, Poplar, Helen, Sarah and George streets and Woodward Avenue. Jane and Ann streets will be entirely repaved.

“I am elated about it,” Council President Archie Brinza said.

The 2022 road repair projects will cost the borough $407,856.99.

Brinza, who also chairs the Public Works Committee, said the repairs would not require a tax increase for the public. The money to pay for the project came from the Liquid Fuels program through PennDOT. The program is funded by taxes on gasoline and the proceeds can only be used for improvements associated with road repair.

Controller Bill Beck said proceeds from the funding were used to buy a $70,000 truck for plowing and salting the roads, along with the needed repaving.

Beck is in the process of applying for a grant to repave Chambers Street and Chartiers and Thompson avenues.
