WPIAL FOOTBALL WEEK 7
STO-ROX 41, WESTERN BEAVER 0

On paper, it was a marquee conference matchup. No. 1 versus No. 2, undefeated versus one loss, Sto-Rox versus Western Beaver. Unfortunately for the Golden Beavers, the anticipated Oct. 16 contest turned out to be a one-sided thrashing.

The Sto-Rox Vikings stayed perfect at 8-0 for the season after their 41-0 lambasting of Western Beaver on a rainy, cold, windy and muddy Saturday afternoon.

It only took moments for the Vikings to take control of the game, scoring on their first three possessions to secure a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Posting 14 points in the third quarter, the referee invoked the “mercy rule,” where the clock runs continuously to minimize an already high score deficit. The Vikings added one more score in the fourth for the 41-point victory margin.

The Vikings possess a team of talented, speedy, hard-hitting athletes on both sides of the football, a perfect indication of why the district remains unbeaten this season.

Standing out during the Western Beaver matchup, Running back Jaymar Pearson and Quarterback Josh Jenkins both played superb games. Pearson scored three times and tallied 159 yards rushing and (95 of those came in just three carries during the second half). Jenkins completed 14 of 18 pass attempts for 240 total yards and three touchdowns.

As the regular season winds down, the Vikings seem poised for a long run into the playoffs and a return trip to the WPIAL Championship Game.
